United Kingdom National Telephone Numbering Plan

Every country of the world has its own characteristic prefix for the phone numbers. The prefix of a phone number indicates the country from where the number is. It is simple to recognize a phone number from the phone prefix. The rates for the telecommunication services provided depend on brands, type of services provided, facilities offered, etc.

Everybody decides what are the best company and the best telecommunication service to satisfy its communication needs. If you want to find out more information about the English phone numbers check out the National Telephone Numbering Plan a system used to assign the telephone numbers in the United Kingdom. This telecommunication system is regulated by the United Kingdom government.

Starting with 28 April 2001, all the geographic and non geographic numbers have 9 or 10 digits after the 0 trunk code. All the English cell phone numbers have 10 digits number after the 0 trunk code.

If you have a relative that lives in the United Kingdom, I will present to you a short list with a sample of the geographic numbers.

If you are calling from outside the borders of the United Kingdom, then you should dial +44 before the prefix of the English phone number that you want to reach. For instance, if you want to dial a number located in London, then the number that you have to dial is +44 020 xxxx xxxx and that is how you have to proceed with other English numbers that you want to call at.

As I said before each country has its own phone number codes. In the United Kingdom as I listed above the examples sample, the are codes contain 2, 3, 4 an sometimes 5 digits, that fallow the 0 trunk code. The large cities have usually allocated more telephone numbers and this is the reason why the regional area code is shorter. The longer regional code signifies the fact that less numbers have to be allocated to people. The local customer numbers are 4 to 8 digits long.

As you probably imagine the code allocated to the most crowded and populated area in the United Kingdom witch is London is 020 and the code allocated to the largest area in the United Kingdom, witch is the Northern   Ireland is 028.

The United Kingdom Numbering Plan it is also applied in the three British Crown dependencies, the islands Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man even if those regions aren’t part of the United Kingdom itself. I hope you understood what I have tried to explain to you about the regional codes and the United Kingdom National Telephone Numbering Plan.

If you want to call in certain area of the United Kingdom you check out the regional code and verify if is the right are where you want to call.
