112
The number of emergency calls in Europe

112 is the number for emergency calls in all EU countries.
It has been introduced for mobile phones and VoIP operators such as voice over DSL line. 112 is also used from landline incumbents. Geolocation calls from mobiles and support of different languages are still insufficient or non existent in several EU countries. A mobile phone can be used to reach 112 without first having entered the PIN, and even if the phone is not equipped with a SIM card.

In France, the 112 redirects on the numbers 15,17,18,115 and 119. Summary

116000 is a hotline throughout Europe to report the disappearance of a child. The service will be helpful to parents who lose a child during a trip to another EU country. Operational in early February 2007.
