Are cell phone numbers public?

Nowadays everybody has at least one cell phone to remain in contact with the people he wants, even it’s about personal or professional life. We all prefer cell phones because they can offer us confidentiality. There aren’t phonebooks where somebody could eventually find out your phone number. You can give your phone number only to the persons whom you want to talk with. Cell phone numbers aren’t public and that’s how should they stay.

Of course, there are cases when some cell phone numbers are public, but there aren’t so many. They are exceptions. For example, when you want to buy or sell something you can make an advert and post your cell phone number on the internet. It is easier for you and for the people that could contact you. But after all, is it in your advantage that your cell phone number to be known by everybody?

There are advantages and disadvantages in making cell phone numbers public. Of course, it would be easier to find out a phone number and contact him. But what happens when a complete stranger finds out your phone number? It can be a demented who can hasste you by calling you at late hours and even scare you. Your attacker can go so far that you can’t even imagine. There are cases when the ones that were verbally attacked have needed  the police help.

Every time a person buys a cell phone he does it because he wants confidentiality and because he is assured by the specialists that his cell phone number can not be revealed to anyone who wants it to find it. Of course, there are special cases when cell phone numbers are made public, but this happens with the owner’s accept. Privacy is a very important word for all of us and we all want to select the persons we talk with and the ones that have our phone number.

There are many cases of cell phone numbers that are public, that are known by all of us. It is the case of the operators from different networks and other services. In this case there are only advantages because the one who calls them can receive from the operator different information and they can solve their problems. I don’t see any inconvenient in letting these cell phone numbers public. They are crucial. It is the only way of contact that we have with the ones that can really help us if we have a problem with our cell phones, network and others.

It’s true, cell phone numbers are not public and that’s how should they stay. They offer us security and we are confident that no lunatic can find our cell phone number and stock us. They offer us privacy, a thing that we all want and sometimes so difficult to achieve. Cell phone numbers should be known only by the persons that we want to know and it should offer us confidentiality.
